Me and this book: I absolutely adored the book one of this series, ADORED it. That was the time of my life where I needed a really really good book then all of a sudden, The Guy From Glamour appeared and turned my life around. So forgive me for when I started reading this I had super high expectations. And you guys know what happens with high expectations, right? But don’t worry, almost all my expectations were met. Review: (includes spoilers) A flashback immediately welcomed the story. Back when they were just teenagers, Aaron Weiss was basically in love with his bestfriend, Gregory Ross. But of course, no one knew. Like any other, Aaron didn’t want to risk losing his friendship with him but Aaron eventually did something that made Gregory push him away. He kissed him. And Gregory kissed back, for a mere second. Then he ran. Aaron ashamed, embarrassed and hurt, did the one thing he never thought he would, he ran too. He ran and enlisted in the army. Ten years later, Aaron was sent back from the army on a medical discharge. He spent the half of his life in the army, in the dirt with men and women who risk their lives every day that going back home proved to be quite a challenge. With his mother hovering over him, his father and his wife pestering him about family, Aaron needed to get away for a while. And what better way than to visit Jesse, Gregory’s younger brother, and surprise the guy. During his first years staying in the army, despite having a dispute with his Gregory, Jesse was the one who wrote to him constantly updating him with what was happening back home. Upon arriving at the Jesse’s farmhouse, what he never expected that would happen happened. Jesse wasn’t that excited to see him. Using the reason that he’d rather be left alone than spend a few minutes with anyone, Aaron was surprised. But faith was cruel because Aaron’s car broke down and he couldn’t leave. Despite hating the idea, Jesse finally offered Aaron to stay for the night. But we all know the real reason why Jesse didn’t want Aaron to stay, he just couldn’t say it out loud without revealing some secrets he’d rather hide. Loved the fact that this book didn’t have a love at first sight dramatic scene and we could really visualize how they finally come together through time. Scenes where perfectly placed, both sweet and the angst ones. Family angst was big here especially on the part of Jesse and you’d really see how some people are like that because of how they were brought up. I really felt the pain in Jesse’s eyes. I wanted to jump into the book and give him a hug (even though he gets panic attacks from socializing). Aaron’s condition was also a huge thing especially at the last chapters. The bad thing was that it was sorta predictable what would happen but it was still good to read. Just wished there was something else that happened. The fans of the first book won’t be disappointed since we get to see Anthony and Dean here and there. We got a little reassurance that they’re still happy together. That’s good. But the story didn’t stray from Aaron and Jesse. Which was even better. Over all, I like the way it was written and edited. Though some scenes were predictable it was still okay. This was a decent book in the series but it wasn’t as engaging for me as the first one though. Still, this was both sweet and angsty which I know people love reading in their books. Can’t wait for book three. |
