Title: Axel’s Pup (Werewolves & Dragons #1) Author: Kim Dare Main Characters: Axel Carmichael & Bayden Wolf Genre: Romance, Paranormal (Shifters) & BDSM Length: 560 pages Publisher: Kim Dare Date of Publication: March 11th 2015 Story: As the landlord of The Dragon’s Lair and leader of The Black Dragons Motorcycle Club, Axel Carmichael has seen it all and done it all. He’s a respected and experienced dom. Nothing shocks him any more, and nobody catches him off guard. When Bayden rides up to The Dragon’s Lair on a bike worth more than most men earn in a year, and immediately demonstrates that he has far more attitude than sense, it’s easy for Axel to write him off as a silly little rich boy who’s about to get himself killed. But, there’s more to Bayden than meets the eye. He’s no silly little boy, rich or otherwise, and werewolves aren’t easy to kill. Me and this book: Kim Dare. Enough said. Every Kim Dare book is a must have. No questions needed. Review: Aside from being the leader of the Black Dragons Motorcycle Club and owner of The Dragon’s Lair, Axel was a well-known dominant all around. He’s very skilled and experienced in what he does that nothing ever comes that spikes his interest anymore. Not until an expensive big ass motorcycle rolled to their part of town and a mysteriously hot guy came by the bar. Mysterious, complete with shades on, entered Bayden. Axel discovered that Bayden was one of those werewolves that lived amongst them. Werewolves had bad reputation everywhere and Axel was curious enough to see if that was true. With the news of a werewolf at the bar spreading like wildfire, without long Bayden was challenged into a fight to see if werewolves really were strong enough to win. And of course, Bayden didn’t back down. In a world were humans and werewolves coexist, werewolves were mistreated, mishandled and frowned upon as stated by the human laws that werewolves must obey or else they’d get arrested. So with curiosity in mind and partly attraction as well Axel saw to it that this new guy was worth his attention. BDSM and DS were highly emphasized in this, alongside some hardcore stuff that some might not be comfortable reading. You have been warned. I for one, LOVE those hardcore stuff so there’s no problem there and unlike other Kim Dare books that I’m used too, this has more than 500 pages but that didn’t came up as a problem, no sir. Readers will find themselves wanting more and more from this. The story itself will keep them interested while the events that spiraled will keep them hooked. Not only was this story original on its own, it was unpredictable too. Just when I thought everything was doing great, something equally sad will happen that tugs at my heart to no end. I love that. The complexity of their situation was always highlighted in a way that was not overwhelming at all. Problem after problems hit them like waves but it was all necessary to give the audience the complete experience. The fact that this wasn’t overwhelming as I thought it was, was a huge plus for me. The world building in this shouldn’t be pushed aside, despite with shifters leaving with humans it was done in a way that was believable and convincing. The anti-pack laws and the society itself was enough to make any reader agitated on why they were made so. Ms. Kim showed everyone that what happened in the past will greatly affect the future. A lesson everyone should know. Plus, Bayden was such a sweetheart, so vulnerable and precious. Axel was the perfect person to keep him in check. The connection between the two was beyond genuine and perfect, it was the kind of love that grew. They belonged to each other. And I’m glad this had that perfect HEA to wrap it all up. |
