Title: You Are The Reason (The Tav #2) Author: Renae Kaye Main Characters: Dave “Davo” Pederson & Lee Brennan Genre: Contemporary Romance Length: 226 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: August 7th 2015 Story: Davo’s a pretty average guy. He has a decent job, owns his own home, and spends his weekends at the pub. He fully accepts that he’s gay, but doesn’t want to be one of those gays, who are femme and girly. He likes football and other masculine pursuits, and firmly avoids anything that could be seen as femme—including relationships that last beyond fifteen minutes. Then Davo’s friend and gay idol not only gets a boyfriend, but also adopts a baby girl. Davo is seriously spooked and scuttles down to the pub in fright. That’s where he meets Lee, who is cute from her cherry-red hair, to her pretty little dress and pointy red shoes. Davo is charmed—but how is that possible? He’s gay. Isn’t he? Then Lee tells him he’s actually a guy—he just likes to wear women’s dresses occasionally. Thoroughly confused about an attraction that’s out of character for him, Davo begins the long journey to where he can accept himself without caring what everyone else thinks. Me and this book: I didn’t even know that The Blinding Light will have a book two in the series so I was pleasantly surprised when I found this. And good thing that I found it though, I would have missed out on all the fun. All the cross dressing and ‘tucking’ fun >.< Review: Davo hates anything feminine on a guy. Just even being within a ten mile radius of something super pink makes him uneasy and uncomfortable. It’s not his fault he’s like that though, a cruel childhood memory turned him into that, into someone who despises anything “gay-ish” on a guy despite being gay himself. Make-up, glitter, pink, anything that points out how ‘gay’ a guy can be, he hates that. He’s the total opposite of the person he’ll soon fall head over heels for. Lee loves dressing up, call him a cross dresser or whatever, he just loves it. He doesn’t do it everyday, just occasionally when the feeling is right. It’s like a personal hobby to him, dressing up as a woman, wearing make-up and such then going out not caring if people mistake him for a woman. But he doesn’t do it on purpose, he just does it for the fun in it. So when he first met Davo, dressed up in a sexy dress with his red hair, he never meant for their relationship to go beyond a couple of small talk at the pub, especially knowing that Davo thinks he’s a woman and not a man that he really is. As you can see, straight from that plot, you could guess that there’s going to be a lot of drama concerning betrayal and acceptance andsuch. But actually, it doesn’t. I can classify this story under slight angst, the drama wasn’t overflowing like I thought it was, it was actually light and balanced. And that only made this story more lovable because it focused more on the relationship of the two MCs. Reading about them talking and communicating to each other was so refreshing. Yes, there were still some issues which regards to Davo’s hate for anything femme and Lee for being… well, femme. But that was the beauty in reading it, seeing how understanding Lee was on Davo’s situation was heart-warming and getting a play by play on how Davo starts to see the world differently was the main highlight of the story. Lee really won this over for me despite this story being told in Davo’s point of view. He was just this sweet, perfect guy who works as a dentist assistant and volunteers to help the lgbt community. He was the perfect piece that Davo needed to turn his life around. Slowly but surely, Davo started to change himself and it was all thanks to Lee. And also, we do get a lot of Jake and Patrick from the previous book, I suggest reading that first but for me, I like this way better. These two characters had more emotion and connection that was so visible to see. Plus, there were a lot of sweet and hilarious moments intertwined in the story, I wouldn’t blame you if you finish it in one reading. If I had the time, I know I would have too. |
