Title: Warrior’s Cross Main Characters: Cameron "Cam" Jacobs & Julian Cross Authors: Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux Genre: Mystery, Suspense & Romance Length: 316 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: August 31st 2009 Story: Cameron Jacobs is an open book. He considers himself a common waiter with normal friends, boring hobbies, harmless dogs, and nothing even resembling a secret... except a crush on a tall, dark, devastatingly handsome man who dines alone at his restaurant on Tuesday nights. All it takes is one passionate night with Julian Cross to turn Cameron’s world on its head. Julian's love and devotion are all Cameron could have hoped for and more. But when his ordinary life meets and clashes with Julian's extraordinary lifestyle, Cameron discovers that trust and fear can go hand in hand, and love is just a step away from danger. Me and this book: This was one of the first books that I’ve read when I started reading gay books back in 2012. You always remember your firsts, right? And I remember this alright, I remember it crystal clear in my head. This is the first spin off from the Cut And Run series and I remember being amazed on how the authors did this, making a whole new plot and storyline for these characters before they enter the world of Cut And Run. Just brilliant. And to think that this book can stand on its own? Wow. Amazing. Plus, come on, a waiter and a mysterious guy? That is totally right up my alley. Review: This will circle around the world of Cameron Jacobs or better known as Cam. Cam is your typical hard working guy who works as a waiter in a high class restaurant, who owns little puppies to die for in his little apartment. Cute, right? Well, here comes in a mysterious guy that always sits on Cam’s spot on the restaurant always on a Tuesday. It was obvious that he got Cam’s attention, being all mysterious, quiet and not to mention being incredibly handsome too. It started out like that, Cam always serving him and him being quiet but eventually as days went by, Cam and this mysterious guy start talking. A real conversation for a change. Then add one passionate night with the guy? Cam was totally hooked. Our mysterious guy introduces himself as Julian and shows that he’s a totally normal guy who has a liking on our little Cam. Cam believes him just fine but he’s not always that naïve, he can see that Julian has these hidden secrets that he’s keen on hiding from Cam. So when Cam finally did found out Julian’s other lifestyle, things started to get rocky between the two. This book is a mixture of being both romantic and mysterious. The romance will venture out on the first half of the book where the two will establish their relationship. It can be a little long and draggy but it is needed to show how the two will finally get together. The mysterious part however is provided solely by Julian, through his thoughts and mysterious actions. The readers will know eventually what Julian really does and that’s what makes this book more mysterious. Just the agony of wanting to know how things will escalade between the two will leave the readers on the edge of their seats. I recommend this to those who are willing to read the whole Cut and Run series. Cam and Julian will make an appearance in the series and it’s always best to read this first to know their back story. OR this can also be read as a standalone if you want to read this only. |
