Title: Worth A Shot (FIT Guys #2) Main Characters: Tony & Donovan Author: Kim Dare Genre: Contemporary Romance & slight BDSM Length: 175 pages Publisher: Kim Dare Date of Publication: February 13th 2014 Story: Everyone knows that Tony Landon’s dated dozens of different men and women since he joined the athletics department at the Falconer Institute of Training. Everyone who’s ever gossiped with one of his exes knows that he’s kinky, too. Donovan’s reputation at the institute is different. The only reason people are pretty sure he’s gay is because he drinks at the same pub as most of the gay and bi Falconer guys, and he’s never actually said he’s straight when he’s brushed them all off. Tony’s been flirting with Donovan ever since Donovan joined the institute’s archery programme. Even though a whole year has passed and Donovan’s never given him the slightest encouragement, Tony can’t quite convince himself to give up hope. Donovan has his reasons for not flirting back whenever Tony hits on him—right up until a snippet of overheard gossip lets him in on an interesting fact that just might change everything. The odds are stacked against two very different men ever finding happiness together, but as far as Tony and Donovan are concerned, it’s still worth a shot. Me and this book: Same as my previous Kim Dare review, I would like to express my thanks to the wonderful Ms. Kim Dare for giving me a free copy of this book. Even though I’m a newbie at writing reviews and all that she still gave me a copy. Bless her. Review: At the beginning of the book, we were immediately introduced to a Tony who’s very open with his sexuality and as rumors fly, someone who’s very experienced in the sexual department. The story starts off at the pub where Tony and his friends frequently hang and it was obvious to everyone that Tony was having a dilemma. Apparently, he had made a promise to his coach that he has to withhold any sex from the time being until the Trentmoore meet and he was actually willing to go through with it. And this was what got the attention of our sweet little Donovan here. Donovan was introduced as someone who’s different, different in a way that he’s very much an introverted, shy person. Little did people know that there is much more to Donovan’s story that what meets the eye, something about his past that left him scarred and hurt to the point that he’s scared to be romantically involved with anyone at all. And this was where the story unfolds, thinking that it was safer knowing the promise of ‘no sex’, Donovan somehow makes his move. It wasn’t that hard to get Tony’s attention though since Tony has been flirting with him for practically over a year now and when Don finally flirts back Tony couldn’t let the opportunity pass. So that’s how it begun and I was definitely blown away on how sweet and careful Tony was being throughout it all. It was totally unexpected from the playboy Tony that people keep hearing about, on the contrary he was very protective and gentle on our Donovan here and every sweet scene will make readers melt on the spot. And the kisses, don’t forget about the kisses, it was just too sweet. But what makes this story much more complicated and interesting was how these two start and build a relationship with each other knowing that there are things and circumstances that the other cannot overcome. It’s not easy knowing that Donovan has some limitations both in and out of the bedroom and it’s a good thing that Tony’s there to help him through. And this issue was actually stretched throughout the whole book that there may be parts that can be a little bit confusing for our readers but it’ll all work out in the end. Every scene was written precise and intricately, especially those long pages of sex scenes sprinkled with drama, it was both sweet and intense at the same time. Like with the first book, the pacing was done just right with the right amount of drama and romance that’ll keep the avid readers happy. As always this includes some slight bdsm but it’s not that heavy that first time readers would be uncomfortable, actually it was rather steamy and light. In conclusion, this was a great continuation on the FIT Guys series and it was nice knowing that our playful Tony gets a happy ending too. |
