Title: Breaking Cover (Life Lessons #2) Main Characters: Anthony “Tony” Hart and Jared “Mac” Maclean Author: Kaje Harper Genre: Crime, Suspense and Romance Length: 320 pages Publisher: MLR Press Date of Publication: July 22nd 2011 Story: For homicide detective Mac, it's been a good year. Having Tony to go home to makes him a better cop and a better person. For Tony, it's been hard being in love with a man he can't touch in public. Evasions and outright lying to friends and family take a little of the shine off his relationship with Mac, but Tony is determined to make it work. As the Minneapolis Police Department moves into a hot, humid summer, Mac is faced with a different challenge. A killer has murdered two blond women, and the police have no real clues. Mac hates to think that another murder may be the only way they'll make progress with the case. But when that murder happens, it hits close to home for Tony. And suddenly Mac faces an ultimatum: come out into the sunlight and stand beside Tony as his lover, or walk away and live without a piece of his heart. Me and this book: I gotta say, I have been swept into the world Ms. Kaje Harper had made for this series. I have them all lined up and waiting for me to read and I can’t freakin’ wait. This book was just as good as the first book, with the suspense and a new killer this time and all I want to do right now is to keep on reading and reading until I reach the last book. I’m even making this review quick so that I’d be able to get my hands on that 3rd book. Review: Another murderer is on the loose and it’s up to our favorite detective Mac to catch him. Unfortunately, this killer hit a little close to home, particularly to our Tony. It has been a year since Tony and Mac had been officially together even if it was behind closed doors. This was the agreement they had, Mac can’t afford to be outed as gay and Tony had been understanding and considerate with that. But hiding Tony behind the closet with him was bound to take its toll on Tony and if push comes to shove, he’ll have to do what’s right. Despite with a killer to catch, this book focused mostly on the family aspect, Ben with Tony and Anna with Mac. This book will take a turn around halfway when the inevitable happens, and the events after that will make the reader quiver in pain and sadness. It’s never easy, and maybe it will never get easy but knowing that they’re not going through it alone helps, it helps a lot. In the end, this book never lost its touch with the things that made the readers love the first book in the first place. The thrill of catching the killer was still there and still very realistic which is a really big plus points in crime books. Over all, this book was as good as the first but not because they have the same theme or plot, it’s different because this time it focused more on Mac and Tony as a family themselves and that really made this book stand out. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and I’m sure our readers can’t wait to. See you in the next Life Lessons review, ciao. |
