Title: Waiting For The Flood (Spires Universe) Author: Alexis Hall Main Characters: Edwin Tully & Adam Dacre Genre: Contemporary Romance Length: 106 pages Publisher: Riptide Publishing Date of Publication: February 23rd 2015 Story: People come as well as go. Twelve years ago, Edwin Tully came to Oxford and fell in love with a boy named Marius. He was brilliant. An artist. It was going to be forever. Two years ago, it ended. Now Edwin lives alone in the house they used to share. He tends to damaged books and faded memories, trying to a build a future from the fragments of the past. Then the weather turns, and the river spills into Edwin’s quiet world, bringing with it Adam Dacre from the Environment Agency. An unlikely knight, this stranger with roughened hands and worn wellingtons, but he offers Edwin the hope of something he thought he would never have again. As the two men grow closer in their struggle against the rising waters, Edwin learns he can’t protect himself from everything—and sometimes he doesn't need to try. Me and this book: The writing in this is so beautiful that I vow to myself that one day, I’ll write stories like this. One day, I promise. I know not everyone was comfortable with the writing style, but I absolutely loved it. Review: This wonderful novella was told in the perspective of Edwin. Edwin has been living alone in his flood prone town with nothing but an old lady neighbor to talk to ever since his ex-boyfriend left. And for two years since that time, Edwin had opted to stay in that house they had, with all the memories of the times where he thought he had the best of his life. Being with Marius, he’s ex, for approximately ten years in that house had made it difficult for Edwin to move on with his life, every nook and cranny remineded him of happier times, the norm that he got used to. And now he was left with nothing but more questions as to why the person he thought would spend the rest of his life with me, didn’t. The weather turned on the town, heavy rain came pouring down everywhere, over flooding the nearby river and eventually to the streets and houses. As prevention, a team of experts on flood control had arrived, helping out to prevent any excessive damage that will happen during the flood. And that’s where our timid and speech impaired Edwin meets the very handsome and daring safety engineer, Adam. At first, Edwin didn’t want anything to do with the prevention, he just wanted to get sandbags for him and his neighbor. But meeting the very approachable Adam was inevitable. Sooner or later, they found themselves talking more and more, and about random stuff as well. It wasn’t flirting per se but for Edwin, it was more than he could handle but in a good way. Soon he found himself drawn toward the kind guy in the flood. This story was all about moving on and finding that something to push a person to start moving on. For Edwin that was the appearance of Adam. It wasn’t all sweet and sunshine, most of the time the readers will find Edwin pushing even just the thought of being with Adam away. It was frustrating and amazing to read at the same time because it’s not always easy to just move on. It’s easy to say but difficult to do. With that, it just made this book more realistic and lovely. Written in flowery words that would make anyone swoon (or maybe just me), this was such a perfect read to a stressful day. Though there were parts that might lose the readers concentration because it was stretched too much, it won’t really take the reader’s interest away. The moment where Edwin accepts what was happening to him and gives in to the urge to follow his heart was definitely worth waiting for. |
