Title: Witness Main Characters: Ben Jenkins & Reece Withers Author: L.A. Gilbert Genre: Contemporary Romance Length: 224 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: April 30th 2010 Story: Ben Jenkins is a down-to-earth cop leading a quiet life in a big, empty house. Visits to the gay bars scratch an itch, but they don't really satisfy, and though he's used to the quiet, he recognizes that the empty feeling plaguing him of late is loneliness. It takes a police cruiser and a ten-speed to bring him together with Reece Withers, a bike messenger and photographer who's still waiting for his big break to arrive. Ben's pretty sure what he's feeling is love, but they both have old hurts that need to heal before they can live and live well... together. Me and this book: This book. THIS BOOK. THIIISSSSS BOOOKKK. Wait, I’ll try to calm down. My gosh. I love all kinds of books but sometimes something simple and sweet will make my day. And boy did this book made my day. I already had a feeling that I’ll fangirl over this book because of that pairing, a cop plus a bike messenger. So cliché-ish but it works, it really works. Don’t you just love it when one character is obviously struggling with life and the other is just always there to fix the day? You do? Me too! Stories like this goes straight through my heart. Review: This book started out with how our two heroes went on with their daily lives. Between the two though, Reece obviously lives a harder life than Ben. Every day he goes through eight hours a day of bike messenger-ing, though his true passion was on photography. He had been living at the top floor of his apartment with a broken elevator for ten year now ever since he left home and with that ten years he can’t help but feel down that he was still there at that same place. Every day he would go through the same ordeal dreaming that one day he’ll get out of this routine he has been for years and do something great with his life. Thankfully, that great thing was meeting our Ben here. Ben has been a cop all his life. Since his father had died, he has been living alone in that big house of his with his cat. He too lives a routine life, every day accepting calls for help but in his heart he knows he wanted more. So when he finally received a call from an elderly man about a ‘break-in’ in his home, he rushed over there. And guess who lives at the top floor of the same apartment the elderly lives? Yup, you guessed it right, our baby Reece here. This story was all about pure romance and it’ll give you all the butterflies your stomach needs. Their encounters were always sweet and cute and you just can’t help but smile while reading. Reece’s witty dialogues and Ben’s cute reactions will keep you on your toes. Don’t be contented though, there are going to be problems along the way and with most of them having to do with Reece but don’t fret, our big guy Ben is there to help. But be reminded, there are no dark angst in this book, just lighter ones so if full blown angst is what you love reading then don’t pick this book up. This book is simplicity at its best, all about fixing problems along the way of a relationship and trusting one another to the fullest. So now if that’s what you want then this book is just the right blend for you. |
