Title: Assimilation, Love And Other Human Oddities (Claimings #2) Main Characters: Ondry and Liam Author: Lyn Gala Genre: Science Fiction, Space Opera, BDSM & Fetish Length: 225 pages Publisher: Loose-ID Date of Publication: September 23rd 2014 Story: Ondry and Liam have settled into a good life, but their trading is still tied up with humans, and humans are always messy. When political changes at the human base lead Ondry to attempt a difficult trade, the pair find themselves entangled in human affairs. Liam wants to help the people he left and the worlds being torn apart. He also wants to serve Ondry with not only the pleasures of the nest but also by bringing human profits. Ondry has no hope of understanding human psychology in general, he only knows that he will hold onto his palteia with the last breath in his body, and he'd like to keep his status and his wealth too. Unfortunately, new humans bring new conflicts and he is not sure how to protect Liam. He does know one thing that humans seem to constantly forget—that the peaceful Rownt are predators and when their families are threatened, Rownt become deadly killers. Liam is his family, and Ondry will protect him with his last breath… assuming that he can recognize the dangers in time to do so. Me and this book: As some of you might know (or not), I am very much open to all kinds of genre out there and yes, that includes the out of this world types. Actually, those are what I really love reading and it’s such a pity that only a few authors have really nailed that or at least nailed it to my liking. I simply love the fact how the author would captivate me with his/her own version of the world. That alone fascinates me beyond anything else. The world building, the new nonhuman characters, the way of life, everything about that excites me, it really makes my imagination go wild. And frankly, that’s what books are all about right? To broaden and expand the imagination of readers. And that is why this book made it to at least my top 10 out of this world books. I mean come on, an alien and a human? Fascinating to read. Review: From a human perspective of things, it was easy to think that life wouldn't be easy for Liam and Ondry, with Liam being human and Ondry a different life form. But it's not. On the contrary, in this second installment to the Claimings series we were surprised to see that everything was going smoothly for our two leads. Despite the obvious, Liam and Ondry had actually made life work for them and it's evident in their everyday lives that this was what’s meant to be. Our human Liam, being educated in the Prarownt world was actually living a very comfortable life being the palteia to his chilta, Ondry. Though as stated multiple times in the book, a palteia was not a submissive in human language but it was much more than any human words can describe. And in this book, we were reminded of how it was such. Ondry never treated Liam as if he was a submissive like a human would do, he treated him as family, as a part of himself. He protected, guarded and provided for his palteia like a good chilta he was and more. The word 'love' might not be used in this book a lot but with what Ondry and Liam have going on, that was love. Sometimes, love can't be described in words, it can be seen in action. And in this book, there were a lot of that, so many that sometimes it hits the readers unexpectedly that all we could do was smile in happiness. The only thing that kept getting in the way of the happy and contented life of the two were the humans. Since trading and statuses were a part of Rownt life, they can't help but interact with humans, humans who were stupid and as Ondry would call it, illogical. And to think that the humans know everything about the Rownt, then they were wrong, because once someone threatens any part of their family, a Rownt becomes a predator in nature. And since Liam was family, Ondry would do whatever it takes to protect him. Not going through the explanation of the political aspect that went on throughout the whole book, I will say that Ms. Lyn Gala has certainly stepped up her game with her brilliance shown in the world building of this book. If people thought the world building in book one was awesome, well this was more awesome. Every word she used was concise and to the point that the readers would easily get lost in the world she had created. Though this was not a romance filled book, the readers were supplied with the love and care between the two characters seen in every page. Though it might get a little dry at some areas, the pacing was really well done, every scene was made perfectly and it was obvious that it was well thought off. I can't even imagine how Ms. Gala was able to do that but I thank her that she did. In the end, it's safe to say that this is not a book for everybody. If smut filled sex scenes and fluffy overly too sweet scenarios are what you're after then this is not for you. This book is more on the story telling of the world and how humans and other alien species have been able to survive through it all. A keen and imaginative mind is what's needed and if you're not up to that, then don't even bother, if you can't even understand this book, it'll live you behind and move on without you. And plus, this book has tail sex too, believe it or not, so if you can't even appreciate that then just pick up another book. |
