Main Characters: Ty Grady and Zane Garrett Series: Cut & Run Series Book 1 Authors: Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux (one of the best tandem in MM books) Genre: Action, Romance and Suspense Length: 348 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: September 1st, 2008 Story: A series of murders in New York City has stymied the police and FBI alike, and they suspect the culprit is a single killer sending an indecipherable message. But when the two federal agents assigned to the investigation are taken out, the FBI takes a more personal interest in the case. Special Agent Ty Grady is pulled out of undercover work after his case blows up in his face. He's cocky, abrasive, and indisputably the best at what he does. But when he's paired with Special Agent Zane Garrett, it's hate at first sight. Garrett is the perfect image of an agent: serious, sober, and focused, which makes their partnership a classic cliche: total opposites, good cop-bad cop, the odd couple. They both know immediately that their partnership will pose more of an obstacle than the lack of evidence left by the murderer. Practically before their special assignment starts, the murderer strikes again - this time at them. Now on the run, trying to track down a man who has focused on killing his pursuers, Grady and Garrett will have to figure out how to work together before they become two more notches in the murderer's knife Me and this book: This book was the very FIRST MM book that I've read, it devirginized me to be honest. I just had to give my first ever review to this book hands down because this was the book that started it all for me. Without this, I might not even venture out into this MM world. Let’s face it, there are a lot of MM books out there that aren’t good enough or might be a little too much for a first time reader in the genre, so imagine if I read those first? I’d probably be so traumatized that I’d end up reading hetero books for the rest of my life which would be a cost I’d pay because I’ll miss out on all the wonderful stories these books offer. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Cut & Run, for you are the bridge that showed me the wonders of reading MM books. Back at that time, I remember getting all the books available in the series all at once (7 books then, now there’s 8 already) and I ended up reading them all in just one week. Thankful, my craving started during the semestral break so I had plenty of time to read, plenty of time to soak in the world that these two incredible authors offered. I remember ending up reading all day and all night on my bed, I only get up when it was absolutely necessary. Books > everything else. It was one of the most amazing things I have experienced in my life. Every day it was a new book to me, I read the whole series one book a day just so I could catch up with the other readers. It was exhilarating and it was fun. I was sucked into the world of Ty and Zane and I’ve been a fan ever since. Sadly, I have not read yet the latest that came out which was the book 8, Ball & Chain, but expect me to read it in the near future. Review: This was not a love at first sight kind of romance book. Oh no, it’s definitely not. Actually, Zane and Ty are the complete opposites of each other. Ty was the obnoxious, in-you-face type while Zane was the serious and focused type, yup complete opposites. So it was only natural that these two butted heads from the get go when they were assigned to work together for a huge case. When the case started out, both men want nothing more than to piss off each other and finish the case as fast as possible. But just when they started, they were completely obviously targeted by the ruthless killer which forced them to work with other to survive. At the first part of the book, you’ll definitely feel that Ty and Zane hated the guts out of each other. They constantly piss and cut each other off. But when the tough gets going round the half point of the book, that’s where you’ll see the connection slowly forming between the two. Once mad men, started to feel protective of each other and it was one of the things I loved about this book or the whole series in fact. You can clearly feel the amount of concern they have for each other get heavier as you go by. Despite their differences, they found a way to make it through the day one step at a time. The suspense and action in this book doesn’t get missed out on either. The killer here was definitely sending a message but what and why was up to our two heroes to find out. Personally, I never knew who the killer was until the end and that’s a good thing to hear from a reader. Don’t forget that this was an action packed book, there were many explosions and imminent danger around the corner that will leave the readers wanting more just so they could relieve themselves that the characters were okay. But don’t hate the danger, because these dangers were the ones responsible for bringing the two closer to each other. This was a long read so be sure to prepare your coffees and sleeping schedules because once you start reading, I’ll guarantee that it’ll keep you up all night. I might be a little bias but who cares? Right? |
