Title: Damian’s Discipine (Collars & Cuffs #5) Main Characters: Jeff & Damian Barnett Authors: K.C. Wells & Parker Williams Genre: BDSM & Contemporary Romance Length: 240 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: October 24th 2014 Story: The man who pimped Jeff may be in prison, but Jeff is still living the nightmare, selling himself to men and relying on pills to manage. Then he meets Scott, a young American man who could easily have been where Jeff is now. Scott’s friends extend a helping hand to Jeff, and he grabs it. Leo and Thomas bring Jeff to stay with Dom Damian Barnett until they can find him someplace more long-term. Still grieving from losing his sub to cancer two years before, Damian agrees to help. But when he glimpses the extent of the damage, Damian wants to do more than offer his guestroom. Jeff is not a submissive, but Damian can see he desperately needs structure in his life. It’s up to Damian to find an answer. He never expects that what he discovers will change both their lives. Me and this book: I have been reading Collars & Cuffs books since I got them over and over again. These books are usually the kind of books that I read when I’ve got no new materials in hand. And it always, ALWAYS, affects me as if I’m reading them for the first time again. And of course the couples have all taken over my heart, Leo and Alex, Thomas and Peter, Scott and Ben, Andrew and Gareth. But something was a little off with this couple, Jeff and Damian. I’m not quite sure if it’s because I was expecting too much or whether it was because I was too excited to read it but I found myself lost through some parts of this book. I wasn’t getting that attached feeling when I read a Collars & Cuffs book anymore. Maybe it’s because I was used to the concept or something? Or maybe because I love the previous couples more? I don’t know. But, still, this book was co-written by one of the best authors in this gay world, K.C. Wells (plus, she loves gay pornstars too! I see you on twitter Ms. Wells. >.<) so I shouldn’t complain. Still a must read though! Review: This jumps off from the Collars and Cuffs book 3, Someone To Keep Me, timeframe and it goes on from there. From book three, we were introduced to the fake Jeff whom lured our baby Scott from the US. But of course, we all know that the real Jeff wasn’t like that, he was also a victim and Scott was actually lucky to not have met the same fate as him. Scott, with the help from Leo and the gang, all wanted to help Jeff and keep him safe. And that’s where Dom Damian comes in. Yet again from book 3, we get a little glimpse of Damian, hinting us that he’s a gentle dom and would take care of his subs greatly. And we can finally see how he does it in this book. Jeff was given the opportunity to change his life as he stays with Damian in his home. As always, it’s not easy. Jeff had been through a lot and he gets by one day at a time. Unlike Peter, from book 2 Trusting Thomas, Jeff here often times gets angry, lashes out, makes rash decisions and turns to his little white pills for help. Damian’s job is to keep him from doing that and prevent him from further hurting himself. But Damian has his own heavy issues as well with his previous sub, Oliver, whom died from cancer two years ago. Now, we get to see how these two find each other in all that mess and eventually fall in love. An aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked in this story is the domestic discipline. Maybe there are some people who aren’t aware yet what that is. It is different from the regular dom and sub relationship which the readers may find weird because they’ve been used to the dom/sub routine from the previous books. So heads up to those going to read this as a standalone, DD is a little different from BDSM, just don’t get confused. The writing style is the same wonderful thing as ever, detailed and simple yet full of the emotions they portray. Perfect for those readers who are new to reading about this lifestyle. It starts off with a slow start, there's no immediate connection between the two (no love at first sight) and it also seemed that Damian just agreed to it because he has too. But that's the good part because we get to really see how he changes from just a man with a mission to a man in love. Jeff gets to change as well too, not with only the romance part but with his life in general and it's amazing to witness. Still as I’ve said, this is a must read for those very big fans of the series but don’t get too excited and skim through it, it might spoil the fun. Just read this very calmly and in an orderly fashion and sooner or later you’d find yourselves drifting off to the wonderful tea filled world of Collars & Cuffs. Enjoy. |
