Title: Let The Wrong Light In Author: Avon Gale Main Characters: Avery Hextall & Malin Lacroix Genre: Romance & Kink Length: 210 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: September 25th 2015 Story: Avery Hextall, a junior architect at a prestigious firm, is thrilled when his design is chosen for a new performing-arts center—even if it means working closely with his insufferably uptight project manager, Malin Lacroix. When a chance encounter in the boss’s office proves that Lacroix is anything but cold, Avery is determined to learn more about the real man beneath the aloof veneer. Despite their growing attraction and their increasingly kinky encounters, the enigmatic Malin remains as emotionally distant as ever. Worse, Avery’s friends are convinced Malin thinks of Avery as a dirty secret and nothing more—a secret that might destroy both of their careers. But the real secret is a single moment in time that haunts Malin and keeps him from committing to the life he wants with Avery. In order to move on, Avery must help Malin come to terms with the tragedy in his past before they can work on building a future together. Me and this book: I was not expecting the level of kink in this book. The plot didn’t provide clearly the kink element and it completely caught me off guard. It’s my fault anyway, I got this mainly because of how cool the book cover looked. LOL. Review: Being a junior architect at a prestigious and well known firm, Avery Hextall wanted nothing more than to let one of his designs be chosen by the strict and cold Mr. Malin Lacroix, his project manager. And knowing that his latest design he worked really hard on once again get denied, he has had enough. He couldn’t stop himself from barging into Lacroix’ office demanding an acceptable reason on what the hell he was lacking on. What he didn’t expect after that was showing appreciation to his project manager and at the same time garnering inappropriate sexual attraction for him. That started the spark in his head that he couldn’t turn off, the desire kept building and building despite his efforts of ignoring it. Using what he had understood in his impromptu meeting with Malin, Avery did his best for the next project. And finally, his design was chosen. Seeing through the project being made required him to be with Malin a lot which did nothing to wither his desire, it burned more and more until it was too much. His dick took over and he did something he promised he wouldn’t do, however, much to his surprise, he found Malin going along with it. The relationship of the two started physically, when they both accepted the fact that they fit each other’s kink, it was hard to deny the attraction. And to be frank, whenever the two MC’s weren’t interacting with each other, I longed for the scenes to fast forward. The book had a little too much dialogue between Avery and secondary characters and sometimes they talk about the same damn thing which was partly irritating. To be honest, it made me power read at some parts. But damn, when Avery and Malin were fucking each other both physically and mentally, that was totally hot and heavy. The mental battle that Avery went through was written in detailed words that it was overwhelming and it made me understand more on how his brain processed what was happening to him. It also made the transition between his anger at the beginning to lust very easy to understand. Yes, the sex had a brutal kink element in it but for me it wasn’t too brutal but for others it might be so just have an open mind when reading. It was super hot though so I won’t complain about it. Since this was told in Avery’s point of view I can see what was going through his head during these scenes, meaning readers can see how he enjoyed it and may make the light readers out there feel better when reading the sex parts. But this book wasn’t just about the sex, it had a lot of drama intertwined with the story making the plot a lot thicker and meaningful. With Malin being closed off and cold, it gave Avery mixed feelings if what they were doing was right. The entire angst wasn’t too heavy and the author made it sure to include a lot of light dialogues to keep the readers from plunging in the drama too much which I appreciated a lot. Also I loved how the way Malin slowly opened up to Avery, I’ve been longing for that to happen since the very beginning and reading it happen bit by bit was perfection. How he was at the ending was actually my favorite part of the book. Though Malin’s character was a little hard to get into, it was fun to see how the book would change my mind about that and it did. In the end, this book was about romance and seeing their lust for each other turn into romance was worth it. Favorite Line: Maybe this will be all right. Maybe love isn’t so bad after all. |
