Title: Not Safe For Work Author: L.A. Witt Main Characters: Jon McNeill & Rick Pierce Genre: Romance & BDSM Length: 290 pages Publisher: Samhain Publishing Date of Publication: December 15th 2015 Story: They’re a match made in the dungeon…until their secret gets out. Bored senseless in a meeting, architectural modeler Jon McNeill amuses himself with a kinky dating app on his phone. Then the app matches him with another user…who’s six feet away. Suddenly Jon finds himself on the same page as someone way above his pay grade: millionaire property developer Rick Pierce. His firm’s biggest—and hottest—client. The app isn’t kidding either. They’re a perfect match. Jon’s a Dom, Rick’s a sub, and bondage is their thing. Both guys are well into their forties, know their way around the bedroom, and definitely appreciate a good suit. And the best part? They’re a match outside the bedroom too. But office relationships aren’t easy to keep a secret. When the truth comes out, Jon is certain he’s about to get fired. Instead, his bosses throw him a curve ball—an ultimatum that puts both his job and his relationship in jeopardy. Review: Jon McNeill was stuck in a boring project meeting, boring enough that he had risked opening up his phone and checking this new app he had. A kinky dating app where a person can find someone who’s compatible with them in a kink level. And since Jon was a dom, he was looking for a sub who wanted the same thing he wanted in scenes. To his luck, the closest one compatible to him was said to be only six feet away from him. Looking up from his phone, he saw him, Mr. Rick Pierce, the richest and most important client the company he works for has contracted with. I was a little skeptical when they first met, the meeting and everything was a little off. Too ‘fanfiction-y’. Jon didn’t even exuded dominance even after they had talked. To be honest, it looked like Rick was the dom there for a second. Took me totally way off guard. But I kept on reading, hoping at least the bdsm scenes where good enough to back up the story and I’m sad that it wasn’t. Even the dom and sub feels that this story was supposed to have wasn’t there, Jon wasn’t that dommy which was such a let down because I am a sucker for hardcore doms. Granted there were a lot of bdsm scenes but they were light, all the anticipation of Jon’s dungeon and all the scary things inside went to waste when he kept reusing items for their scenes. Sigh. Granted, there were a lot of elements they had used but still it wasn’t enough for me. What I did like was that there were a lot of scenes where they just had normal vanilla sex, it was a sweet change of pace but that was about it. Despite that, the story was still enough for me to finish reading this book. I agree with the fact that Jon and Rick handled things like real people, dealing with their problems and stuff. I liked how they gave time to just sit and talk, hangout and spend genuine time with each other. Those were a plus to me. Even with the evil proposition that drove the two to break up for a while, I still liked the way how they handled the situation. Badass Rick was badass. I also liked the interaction between Jon and his team, it was flowy and carefree despite them being hard at work but sometimes it was a little too much, like some of the conversations didn’t really contribute to the story at all. Jon’s ex-wife was a good point in the story too with her being all nice and understanding. We don’t get that much nice and understanding ex-wives in these books. Don’t get me wrong, this story was good but I was just expecting something more with the bdsm scenes. It’s been a while since I’ve read a good bdsm book laced with an equally good story. |
