Title: Put A Ring On It (Ready Or Knot #1) Author: K.A. Mitchell Main Characters: Kieran & Theo Genre: Contemporary Romance Length: 204 pages Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Date of Publication: September 9th 2015 Story: Kieran Delaney-Schwartz—adoptee, underachiever, and self-professed slacker IT guy—lives his under-the-radar life by the motto: Don’t try, don’t fail. His adopted siblings are all overachievers thanks to his driven, liberal parents, but Kieran has elected to avoid disappointing anyone by not getting their hopes up. He’s coasting through his early twenties when he’s hit head-on by Theo. The successful decade-older Broadway producer sweeps him off his feet for a whirlwind thirteen months that are pretty sweet until it all comes screeching to a halt on Valentine’s Day, with an unexpected proposal via a NYC Times Square Flash mob. Now everyone wants in on the wedding, except the grooms… Me and this book: Don’t get me wrong, I loved loved LOVED the sweetness of this books but when it came to the angst, I just couldn’t quite get it. Review: Surprise! A sudden flash mob in the middle of New York Times Square with a proposal at the end. Who wouldn’t say yes to that, right? Right, Kieran? With such a surprising element at the very beginning, this book truly caught my attention. Flash mob? I think this is the first MM book I’ve read that had that element in it. Though it was sweet and exciting, reading in through Kieran’s mind was sort of disappointing for me. With Kieran not giving a damn much about what was happening at that time, it only added to the confusion he felt when suddenly Theo was kneeling in front of him asking him to marry him. But in reality though, I wouldn’t blame Kieran for that hesitation. Kieran’s the type of guy who’s more willing to work in the sidelines than be the center of attention. So being put in the spotlight, I could only imagine the panic that went through him. Kieran said yes. But the meaning behind his yes was what’s bothering the him the most. A part of him made him say yes only just to escape the embarrassment that would come when he would have said no. That was the part of him that was killing him, the part where his yes didn’t really meant that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Theo, that it only meant that he was too coward and scared about the future they would have. It only put Kieran into a spiral of unhealthy emotions. He loved Theo, more than anything, but wouldn’t it hurt to talk to him about it first? Kieran wasn’t good at surprises, he hides from them. And this ultimate surprise might have just been too much for him to handle. Theo couldn’t see it at first, he was blinded by his excitement with Kieran’s response that when it suddenly hit him that maybe Kieran wasn’t so sure about his answer, it came down on him pretty hard. Guilt and second thoughts clouded his mind at some point but he didn’t let it eat him up. He loved Kieran, so much that he was willing to give Kieran the time he needed to think things over. Even if Kieran might bolt in the end, at least he tried, right? Those were the parts that I adored the most, those scenes where these two would put into action how much they love each other despite the situation they were in only proved that what they had was worth keeping. They obviously love each other, but everything was just going too fast for both of them. It put them in situations they weren’t prepared for. And seeing them overcome those situations was worth it for me. I’ll be honest, it took me a long time to soften up to Kieran. I couldn’t get what he was so afraid off. He’s been in a relationship with Theo for months now, heck, they even live together. I just couldn’t see how he reacted that badly to Theo’s proposal. But then again, seeing him trying so hard to make it up to Theo, that was really sweet. What he did for Theo after their big fight, that scene was what turned me around for Kieran. What he did was the sweetest he could have done at that moment and it melted my heart. In the end, this book was full of ups and downs. The sweetness and intimacy this book provided was spot on, however the angst and drama was not to be missed. There’s nothing more difficult to read than an angst filled book. Don’t be fooled by that cover guys! The two main characters will go through a lot of trials before they get their happily ever after. And like I said, I would all be worth it in the end. PS, I also didn’t get Theo’s friends. They were all over the place for me. Favorite Line: “Where are the guys?” [Kieran to Theo] “They are down at the Barefoot Bar drinking and talking about that past. I was more interested in hanging out with my future.” [Theo to Kieran] |
